Holiday in Thekkady
It was a must to take a break from all the hassle's and tensions. It was
a much awaited family trip. We choose Thekkady as our destination. It
was a 3 day trip arranged by a kerala tour packages for family.
It was a 6 hour long journey via a tourist bus. We had lots of fun in the bus. We danced, sang songs, watched a movie etc etc.. By all this we didn't felt the long journey. We started our journey at 5 in the morning. The journey to Thekkady was very refreshing. The climate changed,the wind was cold and fresh. Around was thick green forest. There were lots of monkey's along the side of the road. They are not at all worried being on the road.I think they are enjoying the view. At the both side of the road, we can see fences which is built to restrict the entry of wild animals mainly elephants. By seeing that i got little worried and excited. The tourist guide told that there is chance of seeing elephant in the road and also showed that some mess in side of the road which is believed created by the elephant.
At last, after all the excitement we reached Thekkady. Thank god we didnt had any encounters with the elephants.We only saw some deers and wild buffaloes. The guide said that Our resorts is at the middle of the famous periyar lake. So we have travel by a boat. The journey in the boat is the most beautiful and memorable moments of my life. Both the sides is covered with thick black forest. We saw animals such as deer, rabbit and fox coming to drink water on the shore of the lake. It was very calm and quiet. Only sounds we can hear is the birds chirping and the sound of the waves hitting on our boat.The view was breath taking. After a 15 minutes ride in our boat we reached our place of staying. Many years ago the resort we were staying was rest place of a king when he go for hunting in the forest . Literally the resort was in the middle of the forest and the lake. The room and all was very royal and beautiful. It was like big bungalow. We had our own chief. They would cook us what we like. I was very happy at that.
First we had a welcome drink, which was made from the fresh mango in their garden.I was very tasty and fresh. Later we set out for sight seeing in the boat. The prediction of the boat driver was we were able to see elephants in the shore. There will be a herd and they will come to satisfy their thirst. So we were hoping to see some real wild animals. We traveled by the boat for a half an hour,We didn't see anything. We all were very upset. Then we shut down our boat and waited there for another 15 minutes. Again there was no sign of any animals. At last we decided to go back. At that moment we herd some noise on the left side of the shore.The trees on that side was all shaking.We all watched with excitement. At last!! The prediction of our boat driver became true. It was just not 3 or 4 elephants,there was 13 elephants including 3 babies. It was a family. It was awesome. The boat driver said that the elephants are going to cross the river. We were so happy to see that beautiful and rare scene. I cannot explain in words how happy and excited i felt at that moment. First the male elephant entered into the water. I think he is the head of the family. Then another 2 female entered. Then came the 3 babies. They were all swimming perfectly.They all crossed the river like a trail.It was awesome. The crossing lasted for 10, 15 minutes.We were all happy and we returned to our resort.
The next day we went out to see other parts of the wild life sanctuary. It was so green and pure. I got a special feeling when i arrived there.We spent our full day at the sanctuary.Next day we returned back to our house. It was a sad moment for us. We enjoyed a lot. Still now i remember the smell of fresh wind and grass. i hope to visit back soon....
