Search Engine Optimization is an internet marketing strategy. Mainly it focuses on optimizing web pages. Optimizing process involves editing its contents, HTML and its coding to increase the importance of the keyword. There are three processes, crawling, caching and indexing. Spiders or boots are sent to crawl the pages and extract links to other pages from it. First the bots crawl the pages and take all the data that is needed and store it into its database. This process is called caching. Then an indexer extracts various information are placed into a scheduler. In 1997 Search engine optimization came into being.

Evolution of Google

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergery Brin in 1998.Google was developed based on a special algorithm which calculated the page rank of a web page. Page rank is a function of the quantity and strength of inbound link. Google was not that famous at that time because of it’s in ability for crawling. Later in 2001 Google started to became famous though it was little slow in crawling. Google provide importance to content specifications .Page rank was given based upon the link. The website with highest number of links will be having the highest page rank so that a user can see that website on the top of the list. By this link sellers and link buyers came into the picture. This gave the way to link spamming. Some of the links spamming activities were link farming, non quality links, link exchange, paid links etc.

In 2007 Google took action against paid links that transfer page rank. Now the page rank was based on the quality links. These quality links acted as a boost up in the crawling process. Matt Cutts, a software engineer at Google announced that Google bots would no longer treat no followed link to prevent page rank sculpting. This was one of the major changes in the Google that led to the disappearance of the page rank.

In 2011 Google announced panda updation. This update was done to avoid content spamming. Some of the content spamming activities were keyword stuffing, delicate content pasting and content spinning etc. Later in 2014 Panda 4 updation was announced and it was added as a permanent filter in the algorithm to avoid spamming practices. Next updation was Penguin updation which was also mainly concentrated on link spamming practices. Next updation was done in 2013 Google Humming bird which featured an algorithm change to improve Google’s natural language processing and understanding the semantics of web pages. The last update done by the Google was Panda 4.0 in 2016. Data is refreshed in real time , so changes will be visible very much faster.
